Tribute to my Dad

My Father recently passed away and this is what I said at the funeral:

I am a better person for knowing him and deeply honored to have him as my father.  I’ve heard stories from many others of a strained relationship with their father – I am so grateful that I have not struggled with that.  I had a father who was there for me – who I knew loved me and expressed it to me.  Dad has been described as such a sweet man – and I have to agree with that.  There was a gentleness I think came from our Father above – a gentleness I sometimes see in my son Samuel.

I also got the fixation with computers from my Dad – and I have fully embraced my geek within me.  In fact we often talked about computers and electronics – as that was what we knew.  In his last days I was honored to just be with him – we didn’t talk much but I don’t think we needed to.  I got to hear him laugh in his last few hours and I choose to remember him drifting off to sleep as I left.

In closing I would like to read this passage from Matthew:

“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,[a]
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
4 God blesses those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 God blesses those who are humble,
for they will inherit the whole earth.
6 God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice,[b]
for they will be satisfied.
7 God blesses those who are merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure,
for they will see God.
9 God blesses those who work for peace,
for they will be called the children of God.
10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

11 “God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you[c] and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. 12 Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven.

Andrew, GOD has blessed YOU! Remeber that always. The best thing you can do now
is talk about your DAD often with your kids. They will know him through you….
    What a blessing!

    Love ya MAN!
